Bruce A. Sutphin began his legal career performing medical negligence defense work and representing a local community hospital in 1984. He transitioned to representing plaintiffs in medical negligence and other personal injury litigation in 1994 with a Capital Region law firm, where he worked primarily on birth injury litigation, as well as motor vehicle negligence, labor law cases, and products liability matters. Bruce remained with that firm and became a partner until its dissolution in 2018. He has been Of Counsel with LaFave, Wein & Frament since February 2018.

Bruce has a background in scientific research, having graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and Chemistry, and completing graduate studies in Biochemistry at UConn.

Prior to entering the legal profession, he spent 15 months as a diener, assisting the medical examiner of Middlesex County, Connecticut, and her associate pathologists with the performance of post-mortem examinations (autopsies). He also worked in the clinical histology laboratory.

Bruce then worked as a Research Associate in Transplantation and Surgery at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut. He conducted research in tissue and organ preservation and transplantation, including kidney, liver, heart, and pancreas transplantation. He assisted surgeons in the removal of cadaveric kidneys, livers, and hearts, pre-transplant preservation, and implantation of donor kidneys. Bruce attended law school at night while working full-time in research and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Connecticut School of Law, graduating in three and a half years in the top ten percent of his class.

Bruce values the intersection of law, medicine, science, and mechanics in plaintiff medical negligence, products liability, and other personal injury cases. He relates well to clients, understands their medical issues, and assists them throughout the legal process.

In his free time, Bruce enjoys traveling with his wife, children (and their spouses), and nine grandchildren, and spending time with his family’s two dogs and two cats. He also has an interest in sports cars—working on and driving them—as well as reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, and constructing models. Bruce has coached youth travel soccer from under 8 to under 19 age groups in Clifton Park and has coached Little League Baseball in Clifton Park and East Hartford, Connecticut.

Mr.Frament is an excellent attorney. He kept us informed and understood what we were going through as a family as a result from the accident. He was professional and compassionate. He was genuinely concerned about the case results and not because of what compensation he would get.He fought hard for us .He negotiated with insurance companies to get liens lowered.Mr.Fragment and his law firm are very compassionate and thoughtful. You should definately select Mr.Frament.You would not regret it.Real good attorney who is also a good person too.

Turning my case to Lafave Wein and Frament proved finality and resolve in the right direction. They moved matters along, settlement was made, and Jason Frament delivered. Collectively he and Paul Wein did it….and I would highly recommend Jason Frament and Firm to any person who seeks action and finality. They have acted in my best interest 100 percent, along with Anne G. who communicated effectively. Thank you both for laying the groundwork for future representation, if a need arises.
